We have a new gigantic tv. It was given to us by Jeremiah's parents when they downsized to one house and gave away their duplicate stuff. We got the smaller of their tvs and it's still ridiculously huge.
We don't ever want a tv upstairs bc that's our relaxing, playing, and sleeping space. TV is a separate past-time for us. And I am prejudiced against falling asleep to the tv. (I can't explain why, really, but I do hate that idea.) So we agreed to put this gigantic tv downstairs in our living room, replacing our perfectly decent yet ancient one (12 years old! our tv from college!).
It looks ridiculous because it's way too large for the room and the sofas are one foot from it at the one end, so it's a bit uncomfortable to watch something that close. It's also so big that it's uncomfortable to watch. The screen is the same height as our daughter.
And it has surround sound speakers hooked up on the other side of the room, which is so silly.
Remember that we don't have cable. Or the little box that hooks a tv up to the local and PBS channels. So our tv doesn't get tv. Yet it sits there like we're about to have a ton of people over to "watch the game" on surround sound. It's so comical.
(I do appreciate how amazing Jeremiah's parents are, always giving us their extra things. Having 4 kids and then having them grow up and having those 2 of those kids move out yields lots of unneeded things! I appreciate the extra pots and pans that they gave us too!)
Would love to see a picture of the new tv, just to get the full effect...
