C.'s Birthday Party

We had a birthday party for C.'s 3rd birthday this past weekend. It was a fun, potluck, backyard type thing. I did a lot of cooking and shopping over the weekend because school kept me too busy to get prepared ahead of time.

Plus, I gave in to all of C.'s unreasonable demands, thinking of all the changes she has ahead of her during her third year (her best friend, her sister, going to school 5 days a week; she'll be starting preschool herself 3 1/2 days a week; she'll be bumped up to middle child with her baby brother coming in July; I'll be hopefully starting nursing school full time next spring...).  If she wants cupcakes, I'll make her cupcakes. If she wants a dragon theme, I'll drive to the store at the last minute and buy her dragons. If she wants a campfire, we'll make the best one that our wet wood can handle.

Besides cupcakes, she wanted dragon candies. We made chocolate-covered dragons nests with dragon eggs in them.

And of course, she wanted a cake with dragons on it (and specified that they should be from How to Train Your Dragon movie, not Puff the Magic Dragon or anything. And there should be dragon toys on the cake that she can then play with because the last birthday party she was at a few weeks ago was William's party and that's what he had.) Sure, fine, whatever. It won't be as elaborate as the one that his mom made for him because I was planning on our agreed upon Spring Theme, but I'll make do.

She was very happy with her cake and her dragon toys. And she did quite well during her backyard birthday egg hunt, thanks to some help from Aunt Molly who helped hide the eggs.

And after the kids' egg hunt, we had an egg and Natty Boh hunt for the adults (National Bohemian beer). A Boh hunt is a tradition from our college days that we never did back then, but it was fun to do at C.'s party since by then the majority of adults at the party had attended St. Marys College too!

We roasted peeps on C.'s birthday campfire. It was tastier in theory than in practice. So we switched to raw peeps and traditional s'mores. Do you think we had enough sugar for everyone?

It was a wonderful time, made so much easier by all the family and friends that helped with the food (potluck!) and the clean up (thanks Amy and Heather!).  The party ended with baths for a few kids (including ours, which was so nice of Will to manage for us!) and finally watching netflix with Heather and Julie after the kids went to sleep. Seriously, we have the best friends!
