Super fun week

Here we go again with a weekend spent at our house! I hope it will be like last weekend- fun and alternating between productive and relaxing. I think these are what other people mean when they refer to "weekends."  I've been working a second job on weekends since I got out of grad school (and during undergrad and high school before that) so I pretty much forgot how to do this.

We had a great week but it was super busy. Are you guys ever tired of hearing that? I know I probably say it in every post!

Highlights of the week:
  • I got to teach 3 yoga classes instead of the regular 2 because I offered a bonus one to one of my classes due to inconveniences from the snow.  I just really really love to play with kids and yoga is such a fun way to watch them gain confidence. Sometimes I think I can see them smiling from the inside out! (Maybe my kids were a bit jealous of having to share me more this week because they did some pouting for attention at times, but otherwise they loved it too.)
  • It was my turn to volunteer in J.'s preschool classroom on Thursday. Come to think of it, I lead a 15 min. yoga session for her class too so that's 4 times this week!  It was awesome to see J. doing so well in class and I had a lot of fun teaching the kids about archaeologists and doing a mini-science lesson on hermit crabs!
  • I threw J. a "monster party" as a reward for staying dry all night for 3 nights. (She's since gone back to pull-ups bc it was too much work for me to wake her up and do all that laundry. She's just not ready yet. That monster party was really for me and all my effort!) J. got to invite one friend over for it and we had a fun time. I might have done more components to the party but she was being pouty that morning so I skated by on a few fun things and called it done.
  • LOST premiere. HELLO!
  • Failed Board Meeting attempt. Meeting was rescheduled and we weren't notified but Jeremiah left work early and we drove in the  snow and traffic to Annapolis to get there in time. Luckily I had a key and we let ourselves in to the children's museum.  Jeremiah had a fun daddy-daughter play time while I got some odds and ends done that needed doing there. Then we hit Whole Foods for a quick dinner and to buy some free-range, organic, blah blah blah chicken.  We spent $60 on chicken breasts and I cut it and froze it in portions when we got home. This has to last us all of February and March bc of the expense.  But at least now I feel better that if I'm cooking meat, it's the best possible kind of meat.
  • Fun playdate with my girl Heather and her adorable kids. She even watched my girls for me so I could meet with the local dance studio about possibly renting their space (the answer is no).  How's that for a friend? "Thanks for driving an hour to visit me! Here, take my kids and feed them lunch- I gotta run."
Best Moment of the Week: Heather and I planned our Great Getaway!  In two weeks (!) we're going to Berkeley Springs, a small hippy/yuppy spa town in the hills of West Virginia.  We rented a small apartment for the weekend so it's like having someone else's house to ourselves.  And we're getting spa treatments and going to the funky artsy shops in town and going out to eat! Plus, we're also staying in to eat and sleeping in and bringing books and scrapbooks or whatever and just giving each other permission to hang out. We're not there to entertain each other. We're there to give each other a break, simultaneously. Although anyone could appreciate this awesome weekend, I think a fellow mom of two young kids will really value how special it is like I do!

Worst Moment of the Week: You can see that amidst my weekly recounts, there is no mention of work. I just couldn't spare a square!  I needed all my days to get everything else done and needed my down time to recover from all the effort of those things. My life is too busy for work. And I cancelled last weekend and this weekend's educational programming at the Center due to snow (and I knew no one would show up) so I'm really not getting a lot of hours right now. I should probably stop blogging and get to work.

Thoughts of the Day: Twice this week I was meeting new people in very mundane situations and someone else brought up that Jeremiah is running for office and forced me to talk about it.  It's not that I'm a Judas; I'm not trying to deny him!  I'm just trying to do my thing but bringing attention to myself and his situation makes me feel like I'm under a spotlight.

The first was on Wednesday when I went to a PTA meeting for a high school in Baltimore (long story).  We were going around saying our names and affiliations. I said I was with the Masonville Center and even pitched the weekend programs. I settled back in my seat and looked as if to say "move on" but the moderator said "and your husband is..." So I straightened back up and said "oh, he's running for delegate, blah blah blah." Moderator: "and his name is..." Me: "oh, Jeremiah Chiappelli" and everyone clapped and some people seemed really happy about this as if by my being there they would personally benefit from his being involved in politics. Um, probably not. But anyway, there went my chance to sneak out early. I felt I had to stay the whole time or else it would be noticed that Jeremiah Chiappelli's wife didn't even stay for the whole thing.

The second was to a much lesser degree, but it was at my friend's Tastefully Simple party on Thursday night and I was meeting her neighbors for the first time. At the end of the party some people started talking about the fundraiser and one thing led to another and of course, "well, here's Jeremiah Chiappelli's wife right here!"  Again, of course that would happen and the other people were just stating the obvious and the pertinent. (and they were trying to sell Fundraiser tickets so bless them for being so awesome!) But here's the thing- I'm just an observer. I don't want to talk politics during a Tastefully Simple party. It was 10:30pm and I was tired and not "on."  I didn't want my politics to bleed into my day to day life. But here it begins. This is part of the deal.  This particular situation wasn't bad or anything but it's just that I know it's the start of something long and irritating.

  1. I was reading about Berkely Springs just a few weeks ago. One of my favorite bands is from there. If you are there around March 5th, you can participate in the "Remembering Patsy Cline" festival.

Also, I think you mean Peter. Peter denied that he knew Jesus 3 times. Judas betrayed him and handed him over to the people who wanted him dead. Do I know my Bible or what?

  2. Which of your favorite bands is from there?

Also, I guess I'm not Judas or Peter (as Jeremiah sighs with relief). You're right that I meant Peter but I didn't remember that at the time. You win the bible trivia contest! And here I am, an ex-Sunday School teacher and all. Doh!

  3. I didn't see that you replied to this!

Critton Hollow String Band is from near there or from there. They are a fabulous bluegrass band that I love-love-loved when I was a child.
