I'm starting to get a little bit edgy about being snowed in. I get stir crazy if I'm cooped up for too long. Tonight I'm still ok, but I look ahead to tomorrow and I'm not sure I'll make it. I keep checking to see if the library will be closed again tomorrow bc I might try to take the kids on a trip there if it isn't.
So far the snow's been fun. We're both sore from shoveling but our neighbor used his bobcat to dig out our driveway so it really could have been much worse! We had to do some repairs to the chicken coop- the snow collapsed the netting. Otherwise, I'm thrilled that we never lost power and we're doing great!
Since Saturday we've been busy with lots of work, chores, and "snow day, fun day!" projects. J. wants to be an astronaut when she grows up so we made a glow-in-the-dark scale model of the solar system to hang in her bedroom. She hates that Earth is so tiny and doesn't understand the scope of the scale. It blows my mind too!
[note: before wanting to be an astronaut, J. wanted to be a restaurant when she grows up. This was adorable but I'm glad that she changed her mind. She was believing that we could transform as we grow and that she could truly be a restaurant where people could come in to eat food inside her. This is a much more attainable goal.]
We made a pinata and the kids cracked it and ate the shower of candy tonight. I didn't think they'd want to break it bc J. had so much fun when we made it. But I guess a shower of candy really makes it all ok.
We used snow on our watercolor paints and did lots of painting. We used snow for homemade ice cream, heavy on the toppings. I'm trying to keep this like a celebration of winter! (photo: how we collected snow without leaving the house)
Best Moment of the Snow: C. doesn't love the snow bc it's too deep for her to move. But J. likes playing in the snow piles made from our shoveled path. I made mailboxes and benches and shelves into the snow piles for her to play with and we had fun making new and creative "snow mail" for each other.
Worst Moment of the Snow: Courts are closed for today and tomorrow so Jeremiah's working from home. I'm not able to get any work done though. And I'll probably have to cancel this week's yoga classes too. This was a busy week that we were eager to get over with. Now it's all different than it was going to be and the problems are being put off, not disappearing.
Thoughts of the Day: I'm listening to a book on cd right now. I usually only do that in the car but since I haven't gone anywhere since Friday morning, I had to bring it into the house to finish it. My family is not loving having to listen to my book and I'm sequestering myself in the kitchen a lot so that I can listen to it (get it over with). On the plus side, I'm able to spend a bit more time cooking and making great meals! On the negative side, the sound track to my quiet time is this book! It's not a great book, but it's worth finishing. I'm listening to "The Host" by Stephenie Meyers, the author of the Twilight books.
