Vacation, here I come!

I've got ants in my pants. A fire in my belly. Wings on my feet. Heart a-thumping. Countdown: 4 hours till vacation!

I'm... well, I'm not going to say where I am. Let's just say, I should be doing something else right now.   And I can't wait to get home so we can get started on our long drive down to the very southern line of Virginia! We're going to our friends' parents' vacation house for a long weekend. We'll be hanging with Will and Jessica Alexander, Sarah Mike and Annabelle Smith, and possibly some assorted other loved ones who better just suck it up and get down there!

It's a gorgeous lake house with wide open rooms for the kids to run and adults to lay around and read magazines. This is the fourth summer we've gone there with them and we always have such a good time. There's a lake and a playground to play with. Kayaks and a big backyard. But most especially, there's the nap times.

You really have to sequester me in the middle of nowhere to get me to do nothing but relax. Otherwise I want adventures and culture and hikes and special things like campfires and free music events and cute little restaurants. Which are relaxing for me in that "live life to the fullest" way.

At this lake house, everyone takes naps. Someone's always sleeping, day or night, and so the general attitude is to do things low-key so that you don't wake someone up.

In the morning someone makes an elaborate breakfast and we all lounge around swapping magazines and playing with the kids. In the afternoon we take turns napping and playing outside. At night we play video and board games together. The guys usually have drinking contests of some kind. The girls usually take turns going to bed early (which is a GIFT, trust me).

I'm sad that a few of the vacationers aren't coming this year. It's about a 6 hour drive without DC traffic (ha!) for us. I could be wrong and it's 8 hours. I don't really know bc part of the bargain is that I get to sleep in the car and Jeremiah gets to sleep in the first morning there.

Anyhow, it's blissful. I can't wait. I'm bringing lots of fodder for interesting conversations- gossip, magazines, new parenting books that I have to read for yoga certification, and a looping track of the last three episodes of LOST that I just watch. Who wouldn't want to hear all about it? I bet NONE of my friends that will be there have ever seen an episode. They're "don't own a tv except for dvd purposes" people. I think they might want to hear what's happened during three seasons of LOST plus my analysis of people's characters and my speculation on what's going to happen. Who wouldn't? (don't. say. anything.)

Best Moment recently: LOST. I just finished season three. Oh, did I mention that already? Hmmm. Too bad Jeremiah's a little quicker than I am and he called some things before they happened in the last three episodes that we watched. Otherwise I could force him to talk about it on our long car ride down. But his reaction to everything is "duh". He is not as impressed as I am.

Worst Moment recently: My homemade ice cream was a flop. I ran out of granular sugar and tried to use brown sugar to make it. Turns out, that makes cold, runny, syrup. Jeremiah drank it like a milk shake so it wouldn't go to waste. The thought makes my teeth ache. That was a lot of sugar in one sitting!

Thoughts of the Day: I think I've covered this ground already. Now I'm a to-do list.

-some stuff for work
-pick up CSA
-finish packing
-buy junk food (hallelujah!)
-tune in and turn off
