House Work

The way we remodel this house ourselves, you'd think we enjoy working on the house. Or else maybe that we have some talent or some ambition for gaining skills. 

But that's not it. Not at all. 

When we bought the house we had a few future plans in mind, then a few wishes, and on top of that, several "some day we'll..."

Well, our house has been under constant construction since we bought it almost 5 years ago (and moved in 4 1/2 years ago).  The biggest of course was when we took the small upstairs off and put a large upstairs in instead. The next largest project was reducing the two car garage down to a one car garage and an entryway instead.  This we are still working on.

We put a temporary door and window there but ran into drainage problems and ran out of steam so we never finished the job.

This summer, we are finishing the job. Temporary door and window out, new big door in. Old yucky drywall out, new stuff in. And we're making concrete pavers from a plastic mold so that we can cover and insulate the floor.  Big work.

And how do we have time for all this? Because this time it isn't us at all. It's Jeremiah's dad (who has helped us with pretty much every project thus far). He reserved for us his last 3 weeks before heading back to his job as a professor in NC. I help him when I can and do the concrete work on his days off. We won't get it all done bc we never manage to do that. But I hope to have new ceilings, walls, doors, and floors before the cold of winter.  As always, we must start the work now to get the reward when we want it!
