Campaign Update

Campaign Manager

Jeremiah has a campaign manager and she is awesome. A total catch of a second wife, for sure.  I call her "Campaign Wife" bc I'm pleased as punch that that title is not mine. If his manager was a man, I'd still call him "Campaign Wife" bc as far as I can tell, that's what a manager is.

Her name is Rose and she's a superhero. If you ever met her, you'd leave thinking the same thing. I love that she told Jeremiah to get his hair cut, iron his shirt, and made him sit down and write an email right there in front of her. And he did! Each time he told me, I could see hope in his eyes that I would react as if she was crazy or overstepping her bounds or anything. As if! I second the motion and want to give that lady a raise (what's more than zero?)!  (and Jeremiah would never think she was crazy or overstepping her bounds. He knows what lucky is, and it's having Rose as a campaign manager. He just wishes I would give him a break. Must be tough having two awesome wives!)

She ran for this same position (Delegate) in the last election but was unable to put all her efforts into it bc she was also serving in Iraq with the military for part of the time.  Now she has two young kids, is a part time lawyer, and is still active in the military. Now is not the time for her to run. But maybe next time...

Anyhow, when puzzling things happen and I don't know the answer, I can say "ask Rose".  When Jeremiah has been venting to me about something frustrating for awhile and I need to make dinner, I can say "call Rose". When we don't know which option to choose and we're starting to get stressed, we can say "let Rose decide!"  It's really freakin sweet.

So props to second wives everywhere. And to superheroes. And to amazing volunteers. We love you, Rose!

Signs:

Yesterday Jeremiah's dad and I drove around Pasadena for 5 hours taking yard signs to people who asked for one and putting some up on public lands in good locations.

In one spot on the main road, his dad got into a heated discussion with a local business owner over who exactly owned the land. The local guy claimed he did and though he knew Jeremiah and wished him all the best, he didn't want our sign mixed in with the Republican candidate signs across the street from his business. He claimed to own that land but we figured he didn't own the right of way along the road where the signs were anyhow. That's the tricky part. We know we're right but he thinks he owns it. So we had to take the signs down and move on bc he'd probably go out and take them down anyhow, right or wrong.

Losing signs is discouraging and more importantly, we don't really want to piss anyone off. So we had to lose a few spaces bc we knew we'd lose the signs there, right or wrong. But we also got permission for some cool spots and sprinkled signs in supporters yards all over town. So overall, it was a good time.

Other campaign things this past week:

-Took kids to Sunday breakfast at the local Democrats club. Several people told Jeremiah to drag us with him everywhere since he's the ONLY candidate for delegate (out of 8) that has a solid nuclear family. And that plays well around here. Too bad we don't think it should matter and our kids are too little to hang so we don't make the same emphasis.

-Took kids to the local carnival in campaign tshirts. Now that's the kind of campaigning that they're excited for! Jeremiah and the Citizens for Jeremiah Chiappelli volunteered at that same carnival on another night to raise money for the Glen Burnie Improvement Association.

-Jeremiah went to lots of good networking events. Lots of promises of support but sadly, lots of people afraid to post Chiappelli signs. They don't want to alienate the Republican majority around here. Cowards!

-Ordered more t-shirts in anticipation of the upcoming August 21st Burgers and Beer fundraiser.  Working on the logistics of that event. Should be fun!
