Last Week in Profile

My lovely friends Jenny and Amy did bullet point updates as their blogs today. Inspired, I'm doing the same.

* My biggest excitement is that the ball is rolling for my long-term plan of becoming a midwife. Several friends have hooked me up to talk with their Midwife friends over email and they've had supportive thoughts.  I am enrolled in the community college for classes starting in late August.  My friends Julie and Heather gave me a serious talking to about my time management and they helped me decide to switch my plan for "Anatomy and Physiology" from one 6 hr Saturday class to two 3 hr classes on Monday and Wednesday nights. The other two classes, Developmental Psychology and Nutrition, are online.

* I really love going to the gym and I would go every single day if I could squeeze it in. The hardest part is that I really love taking the classes and they're only offered in the late morning and early evening. In the late morning is when my schedule is taken by activities with my kids.  In the early evening is when my kids are the crankiest and I have to negotiate dinner and bedtime around their short fuses. It is a rare experience when I'm not called over the intercom to pick up my kids from the Kids Club bc of crying or potty problems (related to tired, anxiety, or just plain bad luck).  It would be different if I could leave them at home with Jeremiah at any point but that's a rare experience too.

* I saw the Dave Matthews Band concert in Hershey PA last Friday night! I went with my sister Cecylia, my Aunt Janet, and my Aunt Carol. The traffic made the drive tense so that was uncomfortable, but once the music started we all had a wonderful time. I danced like crazy and loved every second of it! We had a great view of the stage and they played marvelously, including some of my favorites! It really felt good to just dance and dance.  And I liked doing something special with those wonderful ladies!

* Last week it was over 100 degrees for several days in a row. We did lots of activities around town and around the house instead of playing outside. It was fun but I'm glad that's over! Unfortunately, now it's been rainy for a few days and we're still doing the same sorts of things. Fun but I'm eager to play outside and go swimming again!

*The weather baked my garden and now is drenching it. I have no idea if anything good will come from this. The flowers are looking well but the vegetables aren't sure what to do.  Thank goodness for Farmers Markets!

* Jessie was in town from Toronto last week and that was fun but tiring since I tried to see her every day.  When we put our kids together we have kids ages 4, 3, 2, and 1.  So there's a little less conversation, a little more action.  Luckily she was staying at her parents' house with their awesome pool so we went swimming several days with them.  We also got to go out to dinner, just the two couples (her husband was in town with her too).  We had a great time, just talking and eating and laughing and we were so sad to have to leave "early" after a 2 hr meal bc of the babysitter. I will always wish that we lived in the same country.

* One of the special things that we did last week to beat the heat was to catch a free kids movie at the local movie theatre.  We arranged to meet up with my friend from college and her two girls who are each a month older than mine.  The girls were so adorable, all lined up in theatre seats, sharing popcorn (smuggled from home of course) and talking together.  They all sat for the entire movie! (We saw Horton Hears a Who)  Afterwards we took them to the play area and then ate lunch in the mall and rode the elevators. We could have all kept playing and playing, I think. It was nice to do something different where we all enjoyed it so thoroughly.

And the bullet points go on and on. My yoga classes are going well and I'm really enjoying the challenges of planning for 3 different classes each week. We have something happening every day, usually involving friends and campaign-related events and enriching activities with the kids.  This is a whirlwind summer of fun before we start pounding each day of school and campaign in the fall! Ugh, I don't even want to think about it!
