The parade went well and Jeremiah finally got a name mention for his participation in the Maryland Gazette. That was on the same page as another of his letters to the editor was published, so for the keen reader, they could put two and two together and hopefully decide to vote for that guy!
He also had another brain trust meeting and finally, the first campaign staff meeting. He's got two smart young go-getters working as his campaign manager (Rose) and his volunteer coordinator (Matt). These youngins are actually only slightly younger and slightly older than us, but within the Democrat Clubs in our area, they are decades younger than the norm. And even within the Young Democrats Club in our county, they are still considered the young ones! Geez, what's going on? But then again, I don't go to any of those meetings bc I've got other things going on. So there's still hope for election day!
Speaking of election day, there's now a Primary race for the Democrat spots in the Delegate race. All along there's been 3 incumbent Republicans and 3 challenging Democrats all trying for 3 seats. The deadline to register for candidacy was last week and one more Republican and one more Democrat dropped into the race on the last day. The Republican hasn't a chance. The incumbents have so much money and name recognition behind them that it's not even a race of political party. The only hope for change is that the Democrats and Independents will vote for a challenger and that Republicans vote beyond party lines. And this can happen, I'm sure of it, because everyone that I've met who's NOT CRAZY agrees that Dwyer, one of the incumbents, is bird-shit crazy and needs to go.
But now there are 4 no-name Democrats running for 3 spots in the Primaries. One of them is not going to even get the chance to go up to bat! The new guy has entered his hat in races before and never wins. His daddy was a politician and so every now and then he does this half-hearted bid that really just messes it up for the other Dems. To me it smells like sabotage but people who know him say he's such a joke that he's not a threat. Plus Jeremiah and the other 2 guys have been campaigning for a year and this guy just stepped in. So the big question is: how much money does this guy have?!
But I'm really not worried, just complaining. Besides the fact that Jeremiah is doing quite well and is right on track, the new guy's last name starts with an E. For those who don't know anything about anyone but just want to vote for 3, they usually vote alphabetically so Chiappelli is still in! : )
We're working on the next fundraiser right now so we can order more yard signs (which are ordered but not distributed yet) and maybe even get a cable tv commercial! Next Fundraiser is still in the works but so far we have: Saturday August 21st, 3-7pm for Burgers and Beer
Sounds good to me!
