I think that birthdays are the most special thing ever. This is just an extension of how I think that a birth is totally sacred and miraculous and to be revered. So of course you should honor that time by holding your birthday in high regard. I've only been reflecting on it like this since I became an adult. Perhaps it coincided with the year that I lost my mom and now I know that my strongest bond to her is that she gave birth to me (which is not to diminish anything else, but just to really appreciate her and me at once). Because now I think we should almost be honoring our own mothers on our birthday. Like how on their birthday, hobbits give presents to everyone else instead of how we do it. On your birthday you should be celebrating your mother! And I do. But I also like to make my loved ones treat me like a queen for a day. I'd do the same for them if they'd let me!
Birthday
This year my birthday started with having to work (well, technically I got to sleep in first). I did an environmental education table for my Education Center at the local elementary school eco-festival. It was a sunny day and Jeremiah and the kids came with me so that was nice. He helped me set everything up and then took turns manning the table so that I could walk around with the kids and look at stuff. But I enjoyed doing the tabling and watching him take the kids around too. Good time was had by all.
For this local event, Jeremiah wore his campaign t-shirt and we put the girls into the campaign t-shirts that I made for them: "Vote for my dad, he's good at fixing boo-boos" (with the earth and a band-aid over MD) and "Vote for my dad, he's super!" (with a graphic of superman) They got lots of compliments of course but Jeremiah was too ADD and busy with the kids to do any forthright campaigning. We knew lots of people there though, which is funny and unexpected. My boss was there and she gave me a birthday cupcake. My friend from yoga class was there and she and her sons gave me a plant! Very sweet.
Then we came home for nap time bc the kids were overstimulated and exhausted after the 3 hour event. My friend Julie came down to spend my birthday with us and we made guacamole for lunch then she helped me plant all the stuff that I splurged on at the Eco-fest! When the kids finally woke up, we went out for Ritas (the gelati and custard is superior to regular ice cream.) and ate at the park while walking along the lake. We saw a muskrat in the water which was special! Then over to Jeremiah's mom's house to dig up some perennials for Julie's garden and off to special birthday dinner! The girls had made me cards and they sang Happy Birthday to me over and over all day. They got lots of sweet smiles from neighboring booths at the restaurant after one public performance!
After bed time we played Wii and watched most of "Inglorious Bastards". I did not intend to watch a gory, holocaust movie on my birthday. I thought I was watching some quirky movie with Brad Pitt and I kept waiting to see George Clooney. I'm told that's 6 other movies, but not this one. I liked the end though so I wouldn't skip it if I had a do-over.
Mother's Day
I got to sleep in again, which is so super sweet. Then we had a relaxing day around the house and Jeremiah did tons of household chores and helped with yardwork, so that was awesome. I had to do a program at the Education Center so I took J. with me and she was very sweet. We decorated pots and then planted geraniums as Mother's Day gifts. We also did a handprint craft but she chose to give it to Jeremiah's mom. That's fine. She deserves it! We went to visit her and had delivery food. She read and I did a plant sign project while Jeremiah and his siblings played with the girls. It was very nice!
Happy belated Birthday!
