Hot And Cold

I feel like I'm more myself in the spring. I forget this amazing feeling as the seasons go on and by winter I can only remember that I love the spring but not actually feel it (like how I can remember that labor was painful but luckily I can't truly refeel the experience).

We've been outdoors more than we've been inside during these past few sunny days. Warm sun, roaming chickens, dirty fingernails, running children.  Growing seeds, raking leaves, finding sprouts, pushing swings. Nature walks, puddle splashing, watering trees, building sandcastles.  Throwing rocks from the pier, sitting quietly, giving dirt baths to chickens.

Our days have been very busy and Jeremiah has been late from work and/or going to evening meetings every night this week. He went to a Public Hearing on a local environmental issue, which I would have wanted to go to.  And he went to the local Magothy River Watershed Association meeting, which I would have wanted to go to.  But of course I was home with the kids (and working once they go to bed) and could only say "tell them that I say hi!"

Best Moment of the Day: Playing with the kids after work today.  I had to really burn the candle at both ends today. After a full morning of running around getting the kids and house and cars ready for me to leave for the day, I left for work but stopped at Target first to get some things that we need. Then after a busy day at work, I had to leave to pick J. up from preschool and then push her through a grocery shopping trip.  When we finally got home, I had a car FULL of things to deal with and it was dinner time and the kids were sticky and things were messed up.

But then instead of dealing with things, I just took some time to play. Left things where they were and played. It was good.

Worst Moment of the Day: I'm having weird tingling and coldness in my hands this week. Since Monday I've noticed it. I tossed my expired vitamins, just in case.  I'm trying to be conscious if it's related to typing ala carpal tunnel syndrome. And I'm a bit suspicious that it's really all due to J.  She's been creeping into bed with us in the middle of the night for several months now and that forces me to sleep on my side with my shoulders and arms all scrunched up. Sometimes my hands are folded under me when I wake up.

So yesterday I had a talk with her about staying in her own bed. Fast forward over lots of tears and fits, stiff negotiations, and a new lightup digital clock for her room to help her know when she's allowed to come and cuddle (answer: 7am).  As per our negotiations, tonight is her last night for midnight cuddles. So soon I'll have more room to sleep all night long and maybe that will help?

Thoughts of the Day: I'm super duper busy through the rest of March and yet J. is pushing for one more thing. She has gymnastics in her head and she asks about it every day.  This evening Jeremiah and I were trying to teach the girls how to do a cartwheel bc she asked us to.  And she was trying to flip over the playground support bar, calling it her gymnastics move. She only saw one part of a gymnastics class once and she's been talking about it ever since! So I contacted the local Rollie Pollies about free intro classes and I squeezed in a class for each of them next week. Not that we can afford to enroll her and not that I have time to take her on a regular basis!  This might be a time when Mommy just has to say No.

  1. I love that you "left things where they were" and just played. I wish I did that more often! I have to remind myself that I am home for the kids and everything else is just, well, stuff. You are an awesome mommy! Your kids are very lucky. I hope your hand feels better soon!

  2. Jessica,
We are enjoying the wonderfule weather too (and secretly glad we are around for spring).
If you are sleeping with your hand bent down towards your wrist, it can actually cause carpel tunnel as well as typing. If this tingling doesn't improve once you have your bed back, let me know. I can give you some ideas to relieve the stress...before carpel tunnel actually sets in.
    Enjoy the weekend.
