Today we went to BJs Wholesale Club and bought a car full of staples as if we'd never be shopping there again. Because we won't.
In 2006 my work put me on the company's BJs card and I got my own membership card, used for both work and personal shopping. This coincided with our household's need for diapers, which is a lot more convenient and cheaper there.
(By the way- C.'s potty training is going very well and we're still on pull-ups at night, but we're out of diapers for another 6 months! Whoo Hoo!)
Over time we've become addicted to shopping there, going at least once a month and buying all our staples from there (toilet paper, kleenex, cat food, wipes and diapers/pull ups, laundry soap, veggie burgers, pasta). Some of them I KNOW are cheaper there, some are just more convenient. Why buy small things of laundry soap a lot when you can buy a larger one less frequently?
But all of that is gone because I quit my job December 31st and the membership cycle ends January 31st. They are taking my name off the membership and replacing it with the name of my replacement. Fair and foreseeable.
Will we get a new BJs membership (only $50 per year fee through the MOMS Club!)? I don't know. I hate the idea of spending money to save money. Maybe I'll find as I shop for the cheapest options that I wasn't saving all that much money there anyway. Maybe we'll eat less veggie burgers and pasta... no that won't work. Maybe we'll conserve on toilet paper and kleenex... not that won't work. Hmmm... I guess it's about time I started comparison shopping at stores instead of going with the cheapest convenience.
BJs is only $20/year with MOMS Club and you can get it in September...just so you know :) If you are going to coupon for your staples (detergent, tp, etc.) you can probably get them at a better price. You can do online couponing so you aren't getting the newspaper every week. The trick is only use manufactur coupons when the store is also having a sale on the item.
