Rewarding Good Behavior

A few weeks ago, J. asked to create a sticker chart so she could get rewards for staying dry at night. Bless her little heart. She has been making some progress towards keeping her bed dry and is so proud (and surprised) when she's dry in the morning. Finally, finally, she completed a full column on her sticker chart and got to pick her reward.

She chose to have a party and invite her friends Nathan and Cole. What kind of party? She said "a mixed up party." Hmm... sure, I could come up with some cute ideas for that. But just for fun, I wanted to let her plan it instead of me. And she is so creative! We made silly mixed up invitation for Nathan and Cole and delivered Cole's ahead of time and Nathan's after the party. And with each thing we did we laughed "that's mixed up!" (I called and invited them but Nathan couldn't make it at the last minute.) So here's some highlights from her party:

We put J.'s ideas in a hat and drew them out randomly to decide what we'd do next. Here the kids are making their own silly birds nests (and acorns for eggs) modeled after a real one. That's mixed up!

My personal favorite is when the kids decided to sweep the acorns off the driveway. Cleaning the yard during a party? That's mixed up!

They picked out dress up clothes and we took the cd player outside for a silly outdoors dance party. Pretty mixed up!

They did yoga animal poses together to make themselves into crazy mixed up animals. Here they're crab people. Mixed up.

It was a nice break and a nice reward for her. Her next goal: stay dry enough to earn a sleepover with mommy!
