Early December Fidget

We've been doling out the holiday celebrations day by day.  Today we took down the handmade turkeys (in all forms) off the walls and we will start to hang handmade Holiday paraphernalia.  Thank you, preschool.

Tomorrow I will try to put up the 3 foot high kids' tree again (if they could only agree not to climb on the table to touch it).

Friday we make a gingerbread house but I'm thinking we're going to eat it, not display it. It feels very unnatural to have a candy house and just look at it. But it's my first try at making a Gingerbread House so I'm excited! I'll let them decorate it like a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I don't need for it to look like it's supposed to. I just want to try to make it stand like a house for real!

Best Moment of the Day: We had a playgroup this morning for J.  The moms in the playgroup are some of my favorite people and they of course brought the younger siblings along. So there was someone for everyone to play with! There was no craft to assemble, no activity to check off.  Just hanging out time. It was awesome.

Worst Moment of the Day: Today was not a bad one at all but it was a bummer to have a power outage in the area when I was trying to bring the kids home from the sitters house after work.  It seemed like the cops just couldn't deal with directing traffic at a major local intersection so instead they blocked the whole thing off and we all had to take our turn snaking through the back roads to get around it.

Thoughts of the Day:
I'm ready for a winter hobby now. I hate being cold so we're not spending as much time outside as the rest of the year (though I still give in at least a little every day that it's not raining.).  And I finished my Yoga Certification Homework (high five!).  So I don't have that to do every free moment like it's been for the past few months.

Yes, I have to finish writing two grants for J.'s preschool and still have lots of work from home to do. But I'm looking for something fun and relaxing to do.

I think I'll start the Twilight series soon just for something to do. I finished my book club books last week and now I'm just dabbling with random books. This time last year I plowed through all the books in the series by Janet Evanovich.  I get very antsy in winter time.

I need a hobby that's fun or else I'll spend my extra time doing work. On Tuesday J. was at preschool and C. was napping and I finished a few projects and had 30 min left before nap time was over. I didn't want to get into anything big and I didn't know what to do next.  I ended up pacing from room to room, doing little cleanups and putaways that really weren't a priority. I never want to get so bored that I end up cleaning the house! (though it could always use a little more cleaning. Typically it could use a LOT more cleaning.)  So that was lame.

I think I'm in that itchy transition time when I know I'll be really busy and excited come January (when my yoga sessions start) but in the meantime I can't really start anything new. It's the feeling I have through all of pregnancy!

  1. I can't believe you read that series too! I read the Janet Evanovich series last year about this time as well. I was so embarassed... :)

Suggestions for crafts: Creweling canvas shopping bags - it's easy, it doesn't take too teribly long to do each project, and it makes nice gifts on the cheap.
Quilting simple square patchwork quilts - also, fairly easy, but it takes special equipment and space (a sewing machine and a few other things...). This is my recent time-filler.

  2. I am pretty much that way until Spring. I even have a hobby, but it doesn't help that much. I still get that winter fidget.
Love the Janet Evanovich series. Just puts a smile on my face. Twilight was good, but I just don't get the obession over it. Maybe I am just too old to understand it. Stephanie Myer wrote another book "Host" that I liked as well.

  3. Loved the Janet Evanovich series. Just finished Twilight yesterday. Looking forward to the next book. If you haven't gotten it already, I loan you Twilight on Monday. We can trade project ideas, too :)
